Trim to subdomain

It would be useful if you could have a trim function that would trim to the subdomain.  For instance.

https://subdomain.domain.com

could be trimmed to

subdomain.domain.com

I guess this essentially is the same thing as stripping off the protocol, whether that be:

https://
http://
https://www.
http://www.
